Kalin and Travis Flom (no relation to Great Grandma Flom)- they have now been going out for 5 months. Ben and Katie just celebrated their 1 year anniversary.
Well, it has been forever since I have added to the blog I started. Good intentions. Seems to be that way with so much of my life! Here is just a quick update as I have a million things to accomplish today.
Ben still hasn't given me any Prom pics so need to bug him! Ben graduated on Friday June 13th and has been busy working as a counselor for the Y's Camp Streefland. This week is horse camp for 4th and 5th graders so that should prove interesting given his equestrian skills. Mom the pack rat did come in handy as he needed to bring pants for his campers in case they forgot them (cannot ride in shorts). Dug through my supply of stuff that needs to be donated and found a few pairs so hopefully all kids will be riding today! He was a bit sad to end his job working with elderly at a local Assisted Living facility but enjoys now working with the kids. Hoping this will be a summer job he can go back to each summer.
Kalin left June 14th early am (felt very early considering Bruce and I worked the all night Senior party) for AAU's in Orlando. That is- volleyball at the Disney Wide World of Sports complex. They were seeded 49th out of over 100 teams (I think there were 109 but I cannot remember at the moment) and ended up taking 5th place! Pretty incredible. Apparently Kalin played like a beast several of the days so that would have been fun to see. Then home for a bit and then off to Nationals in Dallas TX on June 30. This is a national tournament that you have to qualify for to attend. Our team did not qualify but was the next team in the nation that could qualify and somehow it worked out that we could go (had to laugh because all the teams that qualified got t-shirts from the club she plays for that say "Qualified 08" but since they did not officially qualify they did not get the shirts. They then went and did much much better than the teams that did qualify (in fact the 2's team that Kalin should have been on and has won so much this year, well, they stunk! They came in at the bottom! Kalin's team had a player injured the very first night and so that made it tougher. They ended up coming in 19th place out of 48 teams from throughout the nation including Puerto Rico. The last match they barely lost (by 2 points) and so could have actually come in at least 13th place. Oh well. They should be very proud though because they were the only 3's level team in the whole nation that was even there. That means they played 1's and 2's level teams and beat them. I was not planning to go but then got invited to join 3 other moms and so we drove to Dallas for the week. My first girls road trip ever. Got back July 5.
Apple Valley magazine- is a local magazine that is very nice (full size and in color). They are going to feature a photograph that I took (they always use a photo on the back page). Not sure which photo they are using but will be in the September issue. Either one of baby bunnies we had in the yard last spring or a little frog/toad friend I had last Spring. They are also doing a feature of local jewelry artists in a Fall issue and will be featuring my jewelry which is exciting.
I have also attached a picture of the Senior Poster that I made for Ben. I had better start Kalin' s now! The picture of him getting his diploma is from a place where we need to order his grad picture (better add that to the to-do list or I will forget). We were on the side of the auditorium where I only got a picture of his back so not a great picture.
